On Monday April 29th the South East Wales rivers trust begins its “Eels in the Classroom” project. The trust will begin delivering glass eels to 10 sites within the South Wales Area. Already volunteers have installed the tanks and the necessary equipment ready for the young glass eels. Two volunteers will travel to Gloucester to collect 500 glass eels for the project and start delivering to schools, each school will receive 50 glass eels. Each class will be responsible for the daily feeding of the eels, cleaning the tank and twice a week changing the water. The trust has given each school an education pack which explains the life cycle of this fantastic fish.
This year the trust has been offered space in the Museum at Aberdare where not only can we exhibit a tank with glass eels/ elvers but also champion the work that the trust does on the rivers of the South Wales River Catchment
